William Henderson and B. McGraw talk about democracy reform. Why is democracy a good thing, when it comes to national economic and social outcomes? What are some different electoral systems and forms of government? What are some ways to reform democracy? This is Part 2 of 3 episodes.
We first talk about voter suppression, to include legal tools currently used to suppress the votes of certain groups. These include gerrymandering and preventing voter access. We then talk about possible solutions to voter suppression, to include proportional voting and independent redistricting, run by a panel or by judges. We also discussed mandatory elections (currently implemented in Australia) as another option. Then, we discussed ways to expand voter access, to include election day holidays and more polling locations.
We then did a quick survey of topics will be discussed in the next episode of the series, to include initiatives and referendums, electoral systems, media reform, etc. Finally, we discuss the various reddit argument B. McGraw found.
